How to Make Aunt Lillian’s Cheese Snax.

Sometimes the Holidays are about tradition, and each year my family makes our delicious cheese straws for our guests. They may not be your typical Holiday delicacy, but in our family, they represent coming together and enjoying each other's company.

  • 10 oz. chunk sharp Cracker Barrel cheddar cheese
  • 2 sticks margarine
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour, sifted
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • ½ tsp. dry mustard
  • ½ tsp. cayenne pepper
  • 3 cups Rice Krispies
  • 2-4 shakes of hot sauce (optional)

Directions

Preheat oven to 350°F. Place margarine on counter to bring to room temperature.

Coarsely grate cheese into bowl.

In a separate bowl, sift together the dry ingredients. Combine the cheese, dry ingredients, hot sauce (optional), and margarine in a bowl.

Knead together with hands until mixed well. Stir in Rice Krispies until evenly distributed.

Grease cookie sheet. Scoop palm-sized amount of dough (about 1 tbsp.) into palm of hand, roll lightly to shape into thumb-sized sticks.

Bake in batches for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown.
